Sara Mahoney concentrates her practice in the areas of nursing home litigation, personal injury, medical malpractice, employment discrimination, and consumer class actions. Sara also does appellate work for the firm and has helped research and compose briefs submitted to the New York Appellate Division, First Department, the New York Appellate Division, Second Department, and the 9th Circuit Court of Appeals. In a recent appeal to the New York Appellate Division, First Department, the Court upheld pain and suffering damages totaling $20 million for a single plaintiff – the highest amount to be upheld for such damages in New York State.
Sara is one of the firm’s go-to resources for legal writing and research and she plays an integral role in advancing the firm’s cases, particularly with regard to motion practice and appeals.
Sara has been selected to the Super Lawyers New York Metro Rising Stars lists for the years 2020-2023. She also received a Best Lawyers: Ones to Watch in America award in 2023.
Sara graduated summa cum laude from Florida State University College of Law in 2012, finishing in the top 5% of her class. In law school, Sara served as an editor of one of her law school’s journals and participated in hands-on legal internships and clinics, including an internship with the Innocence Project of Florida and a clinic with her school’s family law clinic. These opportunities allowed her to gain practical legal experience and develop an appreciation for helping those who often cannot help themselves. Sara also participated in a summer clerkship with the Florida Supreme Court.
